Formed in 1999, and consisting of members that once graced bands such as Vader, Kobong, and Prophecy, Nyia was named after a pagan demon of death, and the band played a stylized version of grindcore, in an attempt to take the blasting style of metal to unknown territory.
The band released its first demo, Nospromo, in 2000, and signed a deal with established label Candlelight, which released their debut album, Head Held High, in 2004. The band went quiet to the outside world for three years, but were -- nosily, to be sure -- working on their follow up, More Than You Expect, which was released on the Shane Embury (of Napalm Death fame) run label Feto Records in 2007. That same year, Nyia (Jaroslaw Labieniec -- guitar, Szymon Czech -- guitar, Michal Pawluc -- vocals, Maciej Banaszewski -- bass, and Wojciech Szymanski -- drums) also released a split CD with Antigama and embarked on a tour with said band. ~ Chris True
