Negros are an acclaimed bachata group from the Dominican Republic boasting ace songwriter Wason Brazobán in their membership.
Originally formed in 2001 under the auspices of producer Cholo Brenes, the group is comprised of Joel Silverio, Tommy Jiménez, and Kelvin Jiménez, in addition to Brazobán, who writes the bulk of their material. Moreover, Brazobán's songs have been covered over the years by numerous others, including Monchy & Alexandra, Domenic M, and Los Toros Band. Signed to the New York-based bachata label Premium Latin Music (also home to Aventura and Elvis Martínez), Negros made their full-length debut in 2003 with a self-titled release. Popular as well as critically acclaimed, Negros won the group four Casandra Awards (honors bestowed by the Dominican Association of Journalists): Revelation of the Year, Best Album of the Year, Song of the Year (for "Así Te Amo"), and Songwriter of the Year (given to Brazobán). The follow-up album Sin Fecha de Vencimiento was released by Premium Latin Music in 2005, followed by Armadura de Rosas in 2007, the latter featuring the hit single "Con las Manos Vacias." ~ Jason Birchmeier
