Teenage indie guitar band Mutant League started in early 2009 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Singer/guitarist Tyler Byers, drummer Marshall Holian, guitarist Matt Northrup, and bassist Joseph Doak were school friends who had grown up playing music together. Mutant League found the four boys melding the influence of early indie guitar shredders like Sonic Youth or Dinosaur Jr. with the stylistic approach of the more popular followers of those bands, ie. Wild Nothing, Yuck, and Abe Vigoda.

In 2011, Holian left the band to focus on his new family, and Northrup quit to pursue a solo project. The remaining members brought in drummer Patrick Sheehan, paring Mutant League down from quartet to a trio to continue playing shows and working on new material for future recordings. ~ Fred Thomas
