English electro-pop group Munch Munch were formed after co-founder Richard Manber saw Tom Carrell performing Eurythmics songs during an open-mike night at a Bristol club.
Manber and Carrell quickly hit it off and began making music together on their laptops. Hoping to go for a more organic sound, the duo expanded into a quartet, recruiting Jack O’Connor and Sarah Louise Renwick to help out with the complicated percussion arrangements Manber and Carrell had come up with in the digital realm. Fully assembled, the group’s sound is frantic and textural, combining twisting analog synths with dense percussion arrangements to create a sound reminiscent of Animal Collective's experimental pop crossed with the hyperkinetic glam of Sparks. The band released its debut full-length, Double Visions, on Rough Trade toward the end of 2010. ~ Gregory Heaney
