Phat Cat, whose real name is Mathieu Forel, is a talented artist born on November 7th, 1984, in France, at the Swiss border.
After undertaking extended courses in music theory with the famous trumpet player Erik Truffaz, Phat Cat entered the Jazz scene as a drummer.
In the early 2000s, he devoted himself to singing. His unique, distinctive voice and his Caribbean roots led him spontaneously to Jamaican dancehall and reggae music.
Evolving within de underground movement in Geneva, Phat Cat met in 2004 the Yosh Sound System, with who he performed in clubs, festivals, and concerts, in solo or along withseveral artists, such as Red Rat, Demarco, Munga, Daddy Mory (Raggasonic), Yaniss Odua, Cali P, Charly B…
In 2006, he left for Jamaica and recorded the titles “Mash up di zinc” and “Perilous time” with renowned artists for the Andrew Bassie Record label based in Kingston.
Subsequently, he collaborated in Paris with VJ Cutson (Stomy Bugsy’s official DJ) for the title “Get up”.In 2008, he joined the independent label Skeud Diffusion and in 2010, he realized and produced the “Under di Showa” clip and the album “My Girl”.
Phat Cat and the rapper CKC took part at the finals of the M4music demotape clinic with their song “Petit Bonheur”.
Following numerous concerts, Phat Cat appeared, at the end of 2011, on the main stage of the Royal Arena Festival, alongside Wiz Kalifa, Immortal Technique, The Pharcydes, Reakwon (Wu Tang Clan), Redman & Method Man.
After that, he collaborated with Jamaican artists such as Kim Kartina and the twin sisters under the care of Bounty Killer, the K Queens.
He continued performing on stage during the year 2012.
In 2013, Phat Cat’s career was put on hold. He took a break from the music scene, the night life and all excesses.
2015 marks his return with the unchanged desire to collaborate with the Jamaican dancehall singers, Stacious, Kim Hamilton (Gaza Kim) and other special artists.
Right now, he is preparing new titles for his new album with La6gal, a composer and a talented guitarist. Phat Cat is on the verge of releasing an E.P recorded with Skeud Diffusion.
