Henry began his career in 1985 performing as Shaggy Wonder. His recording debut, the Jamaican hit ‘Blue Bomber’, was recorded at King Tubby’s studio. Inspired by the success of the tune the Mango group licensed the track for the Jamaican Go-Go project that explored the dancehall sound of the late 80s. In 1990, Henry moved to Ocho Rios where he continued to record and performed on the local dancehall scene. In 1991, he released a series of local hits, that led to appearances at Reggae Sunsplash and Sting in the same year. He increased his profile further when he recorded with artists including Sanchez (‘She’s Gone’), Luciano (‘The Program’), Gregory Isaacs (‘Hide And Lick’) and Garnett Silk (‘Give Us Strength’). At the end of the 90s Henry changed his name to Mr. Absolute to avoid confusion with Shaggy. Mr. Absolute initially recorded ‘Gangster’ in combination with ARP, that proved a hit in the specialist charts, followed by the equally popular ‘Win Or Lose’ and ‘Smokey Eyes’. While being acknowledged as a cultural performer Mr. Absolute also diversified into hip-hop as demonstrated on, C.I.A. Files. The album, which included ‘New Recruit’, ‘None Of Mama’s Children’, ‘Blessed Son Of Love’, ‘African Empress’, and the uncompromising ‘Bad Mad Smady’, was met with mixed reviews.
