Gritty, gusty, and kitschy as all get out, Finland's Micragirls emerged in the early aughts with a handful of indie pop singles that gave a nod to Helen Love and Betty & the Werewolves (not to mention any of the bands featured on garage rock compilations like Born Bad and Back from the Grave, both of which the Micragirls cited as big influences).
Lead singer and guitarist Mari, keyboard player Kata, and drummer Risu teamed up to form the Micragirls in 2001, and their debut 7" single, Are You Insane, was released on Music for People the following year. A handful of 7" singles (2003's Mindtwistin' Weekend with the Micragirls, 2004's Primitive Homeorgan Blast, 2006's Feeling Dizzy, Honey) and a two-disc compilation (Feeling Dizzy, Honey!?, released on Bone Voyage Recordings in 2006) came out over the course of the next four years. The latter went on to be repackaged as an LP and was released via Peachy Doll Records (2007) and Bone Voyage (2008). Another single, the Rock ‘n' Roll Rocket/Haunted Heart 7", was released on Bone Voyage in 2008, leading up to the release of the Micragirls' sophomore full-length album, Wild Girl Walk, the following year. ~ Margaret Reges
