After an early Faith No More obsession, specifically with the album 'Angel Dust', Michael found himself holed up in bed for a week with bronchitis, just prior to leaving high school.
With only a couple of swollen glands, a plastic taste in his mouth whenever he tried to eat, and nothing much else to do, he decided to disappear in to his own mind and create his own "Faith No More" album, which is to say write his own songs that owed more than a little to the influence of Mike Patton and co. About five days later, he had improved health, no plastic taste in his mouth when he ate, and… an album. But, realizing it would be impossible for Faith No More to record the “Faith No More” album that was in his head, he would have to learn how to write songs in order to turn his stuff into actual music, rather than just keeping them as melodies that existed only in his head. And his first acoustic guitar soon arrived, followed by the first song he ever wrote- ‘Cold Night’. A demo of that song, plus two others from that initial “FNM” album- “Enter The Dragon” and “Cabin In The Woods”- feature on this site. Although, that debut album he initially conceived has changed with time, and new songs have been introduced to the mix, with a few non-FNM influences as well.

The original plan was for a band- Dreamscape. (Although international law may have prevented the use of that name). They were to be a cinematic rock group of epic, scope, scale and ambition. Various people were met. The one constant was Dan Verrier, a bass player who believed in what Michael was trying to do. But after one too many would-be band members fell by the wayside, he had to tell Dan he was going the solo route. Of the other brief members, Tom Hughes, a guitarist, stands out. He pulled out because he told Michael he wanted to go to RADA and become an actor. He was true to his word, and is starting to make a name for himself, having starred in films such as- ‘Cemetery Junction’ and ‘Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll’, and TV programmes such as ‘Silk’, ‘Page Eight’, ‘Dancing On The Edge’ and ‘The Lady Vanishes’. Michael still has a shit-hot guitar part that Tom recorded in his studio for an early demo of ‘Enter The Dragon’.

The solo-career plan is similar, with cinematic rock being the staple cornerstone sound, but with epic, catchy pop tunes sprinkled into the mix of each album. Albums being the key. Yes, you can download the individual tunes that you like, but it’s more beneficial to buy the album and listen to the songs all come together to make a whole that’s like Hollywood blockbuster for your ears. Each album having it’s own big, broad theme, such as- the supernatural, military, carnival/fantasy, espionage, historical/medieval, film noir and science-fiction. Each one being like an adventure in sound- a book where each song is a different chapter, but with a mixture of styles and moods that make them accessible to people of all different ages and musical tastes. Like widescreen epic-scale entertainment for the masses (If it’s possible to have music in widescreen)
