Born Mellyana Goeslaw on January 7, 1974 in Jakarta, Indonesia, pop singer Melly first burst onto the Indonesian pop and rock scene in the band Potret, which she started with her husband, Anto Hoed.
Eventually, the group faded from view, but Melly pressed on with a solo career, and following three albums with her former band (Potret, II, and Café) she released her debut full-length, Melly in 1999. She followed that work with the 2001 release From Dawn to Beyond, and next appeared on a soundtrack to the film Ada Apa Dengan Cinta in 2002. A student of many different styles -- her forté being mainly rock and R&B -- Melly released another album with Potret in 2003, before resuming solo work with the album Intuisi in 2005. She next appeared on the soundtrack Apa Artinya Cinta, released that same year. ~ Chris True
