Tears for Fears were one of the most popular acts on the planet during the '80s.
Songs such as "Change," "Pale Shelter," "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," "Shout" and other TFF songs ruled the airwaves for quite a few years during the heyday of new wave. This talented duo (Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith) ended their friendship and musical relationship after their third album, Seeds of Love, in 1989. Orzabal continued recording under the band's name while Smith recorded a solo album (Soul on Board) then dropped out of the music business altogether. After a few years of laying low, Smith picked up where he left off and began demoing songs. Happy with what he heard, he put together a band and started to play club dates on the East Coast. Stuck for a name, Smith chose Mayfield as a joke (Curt is Mayfield.....get it?) and Mayfield it remains to this day. Releasing Mayfield's self-titled album on his own, Smith sold it on the Internet before making it officially available (on Zerodisc) in 1997. ~ Steve "Spaz" Schnee
