Marsimoto is the alter ego of German rapper Marteria -- a fun project that started when Marteria (who was born Marten Laciny on December 4, 1982 in Rostock, East Germany) experimented with an effect device, creating a high-pitched voice similar to that of American rapper Quasimoto (the alter ego of Madlib).
Interestingly, this pothead alter ego was created even before the release of a "real" album: the first Marsimoto album was released in 2006 through Magnum 12 -- one year before Marteria's proper debut album, 2007's Base Ventura. Marsimoto's second album, Zu Zweit Allein, was released on Four Music in 2008 and charted at number 84 in the German charts. After another Marteria album, 2010's Zum Glück in die Zukunft, Marsimoto returned with the 2012 album Grüner Samt. The album, which featured production by Dead Rabbit, the Krauts, Kid Simius, and others, entered the charts at number three. ~ Christian Genzel
