Their music is a fusion of steampunk, industrial and electronic rock with Russian folk instruments, balalaika and concertina. The musicians say they play the “RED STEAMPUNK”. MAMA RUSSIA performs ironic rock that shows stereotypes existing about Russia. One can learn about mechanical bears, running on steam, Lenin, who was turned into a cyborg by the Russian scientists, the Red Army and the Russian vodka. Lyrics show alternative history of the USSR, the so called steampunk reality of the Soviet Russia. The band was formed in 2014 in Krasnodar, a city not far from Sochi – the capital of 2014 Winter Olympics. German Rylsky, a musician and the lyrics’ author, is the thought leader of the band.
