Singer Songwriter Cath Moore has worked with a number of musicians through the years under the name 'Lune ' most closely with Guitarist , Stephen Edwards .
The current incarnation of the group Lune has it's roots back in 2001 when
Cath started collaborating with Stephen , working on material both current
at that time as well some of her earlier acoustic works.
Cath Moore began her singing career in Jazz band 'As Famous as the Moon' in the mid
90's in Canberra.
The first version of Lune first came to be in 1999 in Canberra after Cath gained a grant
from the ACT Arts council to record a demo CD , the result of which was a
contemplative collection of harmony based acoustic tracks. ' Great Expectations'
In 2000 Cath moved to Sydney to study scriptwriting at Australian Film Television & Radio School.
By the time the new collaboration had begun with Stephen ,
Cath's scriptwriting background had influenced her lyrical style.
The result is far from the rhyming based genre of most pop music ,
Cath's lyrics , are story and character driven giving Lune's latest works a
unique poetic nature.
Cath & Stephen also worked with Film & TV soundtrack composer Braedy Neal from Subvision on a number of songs adding keyboards , programming , beats and yet more layers to the sound of Lune's music.
The results can be heard on the Tracks ' Cold Pressed' & ' Blue Dust '
Stephen Edwards has been a working musician for many years having played in several bands & also working as a session guitarist on Film & TV soundtracks . Stephen also plays with the Group 'Signal Room' ,
a group that was formed on the set of the cult Sci - Fi series ' Farscape ' with actor Anthony Simcoe.
For the most recent ' Lune' material Stephen has ventured into programming & using keyboards , samplers
& beats to add to the songs with Cath playing piano , sampled Cello , Clarinet etc . The result is a sound
ranging from acoustic melancholy to layered ambient works.
Cath continues to work in scriptwriting as well as song-writing.
It is worth noting that in 2002 she won an AFI award for best short screenplay ,
followed by best student narrative at the St Kilda Film Festival and
the Insite Scriptwriting award at the Adelaide Film Festival 2005 .
With all of this contributing to Lune's lyrical style & content.
Lune is fundamentally acoustic based music, with a strong focus on harmony driven melodies.
Cath's writing background means that Lune's lyrics have a strong narrative quality , whimsical &
melancholic musings on what makes us & the world spin back & forth.
