Delio Bacalski (guitar), Gabriel Gamboa (drums), Quinn Leeper (bass), Michael Hernandez (vocals), Mike Ortiz (guitar), and William Canedo (keyboards) grew up in the San Diego suburbs, honing their own spiky punk sound in the late '90s.
They took their name, Lualta, from a nearby city street. In summer 2002, the cynical sextet released the Catapult EP. They also gained praise in their native Californian town with a Best New Artist nomination at the San Diego Music Awards. Lualta toured the U.K. with Stereophonics the following year. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
