Love Dog is a band that floats somewhere between Rock and the singer/songwriter genre.
The primary writer Jason Witt is heavily influenced by 90’s rock.
The band got its start around 2005 when Jason’s good friend and co-founder of Love Dog decided to start haunting the open mic nights around town. After finding success they decided to come up with a name and start doing shows and became regulars at venues like Kinfolks in Manitou Springs, CO. The name comes from Dain’s love for the band Mother Love Bone and Jason’s 90’s rock influence. Although Jason’s has tried to change it a few times over the years (aka. Jason Witt, and Jack Wagon) the name Love Dog has always stuck.
The band’s first album, Letters to Myself (2006), evolved from what started as a simple acoustic demo. With a little excitement and enthusiasm from Dain the demo that was recorded at a Rap/R&B studio (E Double G Studios) became a full band effort. The band grew from there and performed with a revolving door of support musicians until Dain and Jason decided to separate to work on their own projects.
The second album, Do you wanna go, was an acoustic album recorded at Sunshine Studio’s in Colorado Springs, CO. The album featured the lead guitar talents of up and coming songwriter Dan Wise who also provided some songs for the CD. After the project grew Dan Wise stayed on with Jason and they continued doing shows.
The third album, La Mala Muchacha, was the first actual full band release which started gaining steam fast until Dan Wise was sent off to war in the Middle East. The CD was intended to be release as a demo and was recorded by a friend of the band in their practice space in Security, Colorado.
After Dan came back from Afghanistan the band tried a rebranding and temporarily changed the name to Jackwagon but it didn’t stick. Love Dog is currently in the rebuilding phase once again and has moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. With a new home Love Dog hopes to put out some new material soon.
