American singer Lisa Keith initially made her name as a backing vocalist, often working on records helmed by superstar producers Jam & Lewis.
When it came time for the duo to produce some tracks on what was to become Herb Alpert's commercial comeback, 1987's Keep Your Eye on Me, it was only natural that Keith's vocals would be featured. The icing on the cake was that her credits happened to include the album's two significant pop hits, "Diamonds" (as Janet Jackson's backdrop) and "Making Love in the Rain" (as the lead). No surprise, then, that when Keith finally had the chance to shine on her own, she ended up being signed by Jam & Lewis to their own Perspective Records. And while lead single "Better Than You" became a minor Top 40 hit by early autumn of 1993, her debut (and only) album, Walkin' in the Sun, completely stiffed, as did her following singles, prompting Keith to resume her work as an in-demand background singer. ~ Ricardo Rainho
