No stranger to controversy, Singaporean singer Maia Lee gained some renown as a finalist on the first season of Singapore Idol before embarking on a solo recording career.
Born in Singapore on January 31, 1983, she got her first taste of show business as a singer in the electronic dance group the Usual Suspects. The group released the album Oriental Love (2004) and scored an international hit with "The Love You Promised." Around this same time, she competed on the televised singing show Singapore Idol, finishing in seventh place and earning a reputation for exhibitionism. A recording contract resulted, leading to her solo album debut, Emotionally Advised (2005), along with lots of scandalous media portrayals. ~ Jason Birchmeier
