Award-winning Myrna Loy is a female poet and published writer.
Her poetry radiates passion for political situations, rages against hypocrisy and abuse, and balances it with appreciation and gratitude for her heritage and previous life experiences. Myrna came second in the Bridport Prize, which is one of the UK's notable and prestigious poetry competitions; and second place for ‘The Last Poem’, performed at the Castillo Centre in Manhattan.
Myrna is 3-times published, and her travelogue: 'The Other Side of Tourism' shares her tortuous conflict between her British and Jamaican culture. Her two poetry books 'Poetry's Teacher and Poetry's Promise' share her personal and professional life lessons, and this assemblage of poems chronicles her victory.
As a Black person born in Britain, Myrna says: "British culture encourages conformity and is quite inflexible. We are warned against celebrating our uniqueness, instead, we are conditioned to hide our light under a bushel, mock ourselves, keep our esteem low and deny our birthright, heritage and culture. As a rebellious but diplomatic individual, Myrna blazes her "light" through her writings and paintings. Writing and painting is where she feels safe enough to acknowledge her thoughts and feelings.
Her quarterly magazine, Blackbright News, celebrates the achievements of black people, and shares cross-cultural articles that are informative, relevant and inspiring. She may be relegated to an place where civil activists, rebels and revolutionists reside, but in the meantime, she heralds her regal heritage and shouts from the roof-tops about what she feels and why she feels it!"
Myrna (aka Lady Loy) is a radio presenter on www.Loversrockradio.com, and uses this arena to promote black music and black talent.
