Rokafella began dancing in schools, parties and street shows in her teens.
Once she was exposed to theater she began to attend open mics where she found her voice through the pen.
She added her poetry as interludes to Full Circle Prod Inc Hip-hop dance theater show segments and began to write hooks and sing background for local Rap artists. She worked with Armand Van Helden on a track for his album GhettoBlaster and also worked with various other producers.
La Roka is well very rooted in an Afro- Latina Urban aesthetic offering empowering messages to her listeners. She created a Gospel cover of Jimmy Castor's "Just Begun" which she performed with Full Circle at Kennedy Center in D.C. and at Lincoln Center Out of Doors.
She graciously indulges her audiences with a Break dance demo whenever the request is made since that is the Hip-hop element that helped her break through.
Her idols are Rita Moreno, Iris Chacon, Chita Rivera, Ruth Fernandez, Lucecita Benitez, La India, Olga Tanon, Angela Winbush, Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston (RIP), Roxane Shante, Lisa Lisa, CELIA CRUZ (RIP) Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, Patti Labelle, Regina Belle, Aretha Franklin, Angie Stone etc.
La Roka performs live with musicians, background singers and Full Circle Souljas and solo with an instrumental CD. She can do fifteen minutes or an hour including original poetry, storytelling and dance segments.
She directed a film about B girls -women who Break dance- entitled "All The Ladies Say" and is a featured contributor to the first ever photo book about female break dancers by Martha Cooper "We B*Girlz" She co founded Full Circle Prod Inc in with her husband Gabriel Kwikstep Dionisio and hosts BEHIND THE GROOVE-- a non-top 40 open format monthly dance party at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC.
