Born and raised on a remote farm in the Australian state of Victoria, Kane Alexander's love of music was instilled after finding a selection of classical and operatic records belonging to his grandparents.
At age 11, Alexander knew he wanted to carve a career in music so the youngster was enrolled in singing lessons, and within a few years found himself studying at the Victoria College of the Arts in Melbourne. Realizing that he was too young to become an opera singer, Alexander carved out a career on the Australian stage with performances in Les Miserables and South Pacific. In 2000 he moved to New York to study for a career in acting, and while there performed his own cabaret show. Wowing audiences with his performances, Alexander picked up numerous awards including Best New Voice in Theatremania's cabaret list. Following a move back to Australia in 2002 -- after the promise of an American record deal fell through -- Alexander continued with performances in stage musicals and appeared in various Australian TV shows, including Neighbours and Water Rats. Returning to his operatic and classical roots, Alexander set about recording his 2006 self-titled debut album. Teaming up with producers and songwriters such as Tom Nichols, Tim Baxter, and Anders Bagge, and relocating to London and Stockholm, the album saw Alexander bring together his musical passions, creating a moving mix of reinterpreted and original classical- and soundtrack-inspired pop numbers. ~ Rich Wilson
