July Alley, an alternative rock band from the Dallas, Texas music scene whose unique sound warranted their signing to Columbia / Sony Records in 1993.
The bands A&R rep Nick Terzo (Alice in Chains, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Love Hate) first spotted the band at a producers showcase at the Omni New Daisy in Memphis, Tennessee. Terzo, along with Teresa LaBarbera-Whites (SR VP, A&R Columbia Records) groomed the band for several years prior to inking the deal. The band recorded at Crystal Studios in Hollywood, CA with Grammy Award winning producer Matt Hyde (Porno for Pyros, Slayer, No Doubt, Cypress Hill). The sessions included a guest appearance by Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction, Porno for Pyros) playing percussions on “Easy on the Roof”, as well as Lili Haydn playing violins on “Funeral Birth” and “Suicide Love Pact”.

Dereak Messer and John De Luca initially met in 1988 through original drummer Brian Klein. For years the two developed their songwriting and honed their sound. They built and shaped the line up which ultimately ended up as Messer on Vocals, De Luca on Guitars, Rob Gunderson on Bass and Jeff Vander Maten on Drums / Percussion. Ironically Messer, Gunderson and Vander Maten were all childhood friends from Fort Dodge, Iowa. De Luca is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
