He grew up in sunny Nelson, listening to the likes of Stereophonics, Shihad, Blindspott, John Mayer, Deftones, Incubus, Third Eye Bind and Shapeshifter.

While often found playing chilled out acoustic singer/songwriter style music, John played in the college rock/mental bands 'Insipid' & 'Atrophy' and in Wellington the indie-rock-electro 'Game Cat', and then in the sultry jazz/blues duo 'Sweetmadness'.

John also produces Drum and Bass under the name 'DIATEK' which flows into his Filmmaking and soundtracks.
