My name is John - John Thomas - John David Thomas - JT and I am from Indiana, USA having lived all over the USA in 9 states. I've lived in Phoenix, Arizona 4 years (1984 - 1988), Indiana (40 years), southern California 4 years in a row, including Los Angeles, those 4 years, (in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009) and Hollywood, Santa Monica, San Diego, Long Beach, Hawthorne, Modesto, Panorama City, San Jose/Los Gatos, Riverside, San Bernadino, California, then Oregon, Washington state, (Seattle, Mountlake Terrace, and Marysville), Utah, Nashville, Tennessee, south Florida (Miami, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, etc.), and New York City, New York where I now live (Staten Island, NYC NY 10301-2108) and have lived in NYC ever since March 2009, for the past 14+ years now. I was born March 30, 1951 in a small college town in Indiana called Muncie, about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis (where I grew up in the 1960's and late 1950's, in a conservative area of Indy called Irvington.) I am a lifelong musician and intermittent composer (and former songwriter) with a college degree in "Music Theory and Composition" from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana (my birthplace, literally). I have composed more than 20 genres and styles of music in my lifetime, including rock, disco, jazz-rock, jazz fusion, classical rock, Top 40 rock, piano music, orchestral music, contemporary classical (Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic era music), avant-garde, "musique-concrete", electronic synthesizer music, environmental, mood music, extemporaneous/improvisational, love songs, movie-theme style music, New Age, sacred, "carnal music" (opposite of sacred), World music, you name it...I've done it (musically, that is...) I made a rock and roll Top 40-style record in 1974, with radio airplay in the midwest USA, with 2 of my original songs, "Alabama D.A." and "So Hard, So Long" (written and recorded by me in 1970 and 1973) with me singing lead vocal mostly and playing 5 keyboards on them, on my own record label, Quetico Records. (It was announced in the famous Billboard magazine here in New York City in 1974). It is even played now in L.A., California USA on Lonely Oak Radio station there from time to time. I have played in several rock bands in Indiana and Arizona (variety bands, too) including "The Rebel Kind", "FIRE", "Good Conduct", "John David", "Jetstream" (1977-1983), "Dee Dee Ryan and Ryan's Express" (1984 - 1986 in Apache Junction, Arizona and "Suzanne Heim and the Gulch Gang "(August, 1984 at the former world-famous Pinnacle Peak Patio in Pinnacle Peak, Arizona, about 40 miles northeast of Phoenix, Arizona, where I lived 4 years and 3 months from March 30, 1984 - June 1988, when I then moved 1,800 miles north to Seattle and Mountlake Terrace and then Marysville, Washington where I lived from 1988 - 1990. I was married for 16 years to a religious kindergarten teacher (with a kindergarten "mindset") from July 1974 - November 1990, and had 2 children through that marriage, Bethany and Mark, who were both born in Indianapolis, Indiana in March 1979 and August 1982. They are both married now and both college graduates and Bethany has 2 kids, Jack and Claire, also in Washington state now. Some of my music is famous. My jazz-rock fusion instrumental, "Night Visions" which I composed in 1972 on a Steinway grand piano at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana , is world-famous, having been broadcast on internet radio globally, and elsewhere...(my birthplace) and I recorded it in 1979 in Indianapolis a Neon Cornfield Recording Studio in an ""all-night-long" recording session then. It is broadcast in L.A., California even now from time to time...more about that later....on to the next section of this bio...I have played grand piano professionally at major resorts in Scottsdale, Arizona (1986 - 1987) at The Clarion Inn and The Boulders Resort in Carefree, AZ (now Scottsdale, AZ) which was ranked as the #3 best resort in the entire USA then!!! It was managed by the famous Rockefeller family of New York state, including former Governor of New York, Nelson Rockefeller. I also played piano and Yamaha DX-7 synthesizer in 2 "easy-listening" high-class bands called The Tim Barnett Band and Paul Thomas and Night and Day in 1991 and March 1992 in Indianapolis and the central Indiana area then. I wore a tuxedo for all of those 10 event jobs, as did the other 3 members of those bands. I always had short hair (contrary to popular belief). I also have played cello in orchestras for 20 years in the past from 1960 - 1980 in Indiana USA, including the Indianapolis All-City orchestra and the Indiana All-State Orchestra and I was principal cellist in the Purdue Symphonette orchestra from 1969-1971 and in the BSSO (Ball State Symphony Orchestra (with several musical geniuses in that orchestra). I won the "Outstanding Musician" award in the Purdue Symphonette in 1970, voted on by the entire orchestra!, including 3 musicians from New York City, New York. I have played and programmed complex music synthesizers since the year of 1972, when I used an ARP 2500 studio modular synthesizer (it cost $ 14,000 then!), and my synthesizers called the Yamaha DX-7 digital synthesizer and the Roland JD-990 and Korg 03R-W and Oberheim Matrix 1000 and Kurzweil K2000 Playback sampler (with the real sounds of all the orchestral musical instruments stored in its memory) and Korg Poly-61 synth with an arpeggiator and my Oberheim 4-voice studio modular synthesizer I bought in 1977 (it cost $ 5,200!) I studied cello for 2 years with Joseph Saunders at Ball State U who was a cellist for many years in the famous New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony, the top 2 symphony orchestras in the USA. I also studied classical piano with Michel Bourgeot from Paris, France in 1972, who was a graduate of the famous Paris Conservatory of Music in Paris,, France. I played 3 Chopin Preludes for him then, in the keys of B-minor, G-minor and G-sharp minor. Purdue University where I studied for 2 years from 1969 - 1971 in West Lafayette, Indiana was a famous Big 10 college of 25,000 students, with the largest engineering school in the USA with 5,000 engineering students then (I was one of those 5,000, and I was awarded the prestigious General Motors Engineering Scholarship in 1969 and 1970 by General Motors Corporation in Detroit, Michigan (makers of Cadillac, Buick, and Chevrolet cars and GMC trucks and the Saturn car made in Tennessee).
