The Story so far.......
Jimmy Kunes served his musical apprenticeship in The U.K., playing with numerous bands honing a style which could be best described as Acoustic/Electric Hard Rock/Heavy Blues. Eventually, THE JIMMY KUNES BAND emerged featuring Paul McGilloway (CODA w/ Bobby Rondinelli) and ANGUS CLARK (T.S.O./ Kitaro) on guitars, Dennis Dunaway (ALICE COOPER GROUP co-founder member) on bass, Doug Derryberry (Bruce Hornsby) and Mr. Tony Beard (Johnny Winter Group) and Frankie Thomas (The Bonesmen) on drums.
Jimmy finished recording, mixing and released his second record *"GATE OF ALL SAINTS" in 2006, which includes guest drummers Simon Kirke (FREE/BAD Co.), Steve Gorman (Black Crowes/Stereophonics), Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge/ Cactus) and features bassist extraordinaire Robert Kearns (CRY OF LOVE, Chris Duarte Group Chris Cagle, JACK INGRAM, LYNYRD SKYNYRD: currently with Sheryl Crow). In 2006 Jimmy joined and is currently fronting the legendary hard rock blues boogie band CACTUS. The band, including original members Jim McCarty, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice recorded CACTUS V, the band`s first release for 35 years. A LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY at BB King Blues Club And Grill dvd was filmed before the band took flight to play Sweden Rock 2006 (along with Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Ted Nugent, Michael Schenker Group, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, W.A.S.P., The Sweet, Alice Cooper, Brian Robertson, Molly Hatchet, Crucifed Barbara). He has since appeared on numerous releases including "Live In Japan" in Tokyo (Dec. 7th/8th, 2012) which sees release this year in cd and dvd formats.
There is a follow-up CACTUS record also in the works this year.
2012/13 has been an extremely active period for the band and they toured throughout Germany and Europe in July 2012, April 2013 and July 2013, culminating in appearances at Burg Hertzberg Festival in Germany (along with Gov`t Mule, Steve Hackett and The Garland Jeffreys Band) and ROCK OF AGES Festival (alongside Alan Parsons Live Project, Avantasia (Eric Martin)Mother`s Finest and Krokus).
The band also did a Canadian tour in July 2013 performing at Windsor Blues Festival and Ottawa Blues Festival.
Among other studio recording projects, 2002 saw Jimmy appearing on the W.W.E./World Wrestling Entertainment "ANTHOLOGY" 3 C.D. set singing the theme song for Eric Bischoff entitled "I"m Back", which is still being played at W.W.E. matches. The ANTHOLOGY was a top 10 Independent Billboard charting release.
Jimmy also appears as Writer/ Vocalist on a number of collaborative efforts and releases, including a remake of the classic Humble Pie track "One-Eyed Trouser Snake Rumba" with ex-Savoy Brown/ K.S.B. band mate Joe Hasselvander (RAVEN). Their version can be found on "The Hounds Of Hasselvander" (2009) Limited Edition 180 gram released in red, white and blue vinyl(!). The track will also appear on Joe`s new release later this year.....
Jimmy has also written and released "This Time It`s Gonna Hurt" on Chris Bickley`s 2012 release "Tapestry Of Souls" album, written and recorded with Freddie Villano (Bass Player), Johnny Milian (Milian/Kunes) and long-time friend Dennis Kelly.
A release is also due this year from a project with one Dennis Dunaway (Alice Cooper)!
In 2010, Jimmy teamed up with FireHouse guitarist Bill Leverty ito release a Leverty/Kunes remake of a favorite classic Back Street Crawler tune, "All The Girls Are Crazy" written by Mike Montgomery. This track originally appeared on "The Bands Plays On" L.P. The track was a successful itunes only release in America and Japan.
***Most excitingly, due to the success of the above mentioned track, Bill and Jimmy formed FLOOD THE ENGINE along with Andre LaBelle and Keith Horne and produced a debut album released in 2013 launched by a PledgeMusic campaign which was successful in achieving 130% of their goal!
