A Chicago native, recording artist J.Hollins is highly respected amongst his peers for his ability to masterfully fuse the traditions of rock, gospel, funk, hip-hop, blues, and soul, all while keeping his lyrics fresh and reflective.
He can spit a verse and hit a note so real you will think you were present to witness that vivid moment. It’s a rarity to come across a baritone who can hold his weight rhyming as well. J.Hollins knows the art of storytelling and takes the meaning of music seriously. “Music means one thing to me "freedom," says J.Hollins. No matter what's going on in my life I can always retreat into my creative space and experience true freedom of expression without constraints or boundaries.”

He has worked with a number of industry heavyweights including, Grammy award-winning singer Mary J. Blige and Grammy-nominated producer Chucky Thompson. After much success in the UK as a writer, J.Hollins stepped away from a lucrative deal with a major recording company because he refused to give up control of his craft. “I've walked away from majors because I refuse to relinquish control of my creativity and freedom to anyone, especially for a check and a situation that may or not be seen through,” says J.Hollins.

Instead of selling his “soul”, he released his first full-length solo album, The Chronicles, independently in 2005. Despite the album not reaching mainstream success, J.Hollins captured a faithful audience that resulted in unbelievable sales for an indie artist. In 2010, he released his second album, The Soul Renaissance LP. The album produced a number of radio hits, including Toast and the international smash Because of You. His third album, aka Casanova Black, was released in 2011 and continued to chronicle the life of a grown man on his grind.

Well versed in his rhymes and well rehearsed in his vocals. Real stories are the continued lifeline J.Hollins displays in This Is Me Volume II, a continuation of the theme from his release This Is Me Volume I in 2004. Set for release summer 2013, in This Is Me Volume II you will find everything including music dedicated to the unconditional love from his 3 children in Me and My Pen and the much needed story of manly growth and progression in The Theme.

“I've reached that point in life where I'm truly comfortable being me,” says J.Hollins. “This is why I speak so candidly in my songs. I just want to convey my truth as honestly as possible. It's very easy to do so when you're simply being who you are.”
