JC SPED was originally a 4-Track solo project developed by Jason Camlot in San Francisco in the 1990s amidst a thriving Mission District and South of Market post-punk scene that included great short-lived bands like Hickey and The Tuning Knives.
Camlot played drums for The Tuning Knives, but privately recorded some 50 songs in various SF and Montreal apartments over a period of 5 years, using a FOSTEX 250 4-Track cassette recorder, makeshift gear, Casio keyboards, broken bass guitars, a Fender Jaguar, soundscape noise collected with a portable micro-recorder, and lots of home made distortion pedals.

In its present, improved incarnation, JC SPED is a three piece band that covers the demented old 4-Track tunes and a bunch of new ones, too. More specifically, JC SPED is:

Jason Camlot, Guitars, Keyboards, Vocals

Matthew Rosenberg, Bass

Paul Fitzgerald, Drums

These new recordings were made in Montreal at PK Mansion. Engineered and Mixed by Tyler Fitzmaurice. Mastered by Dimitri Condax at Planet Studios.

All songs written by Jason Camlot, except "Small Town Boy" is by Jimmy Somerville, Larry Steinbachek and Steve Bronski.

The text of "Don't You Want Me, Clay?" is adapted from Daniel Clowes’ Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron.

Some of the original JC SPED 4-Track recordings are available on the compilation JC SPED/Affect.
