Turner is a singer and songwriter who emerged on the folk scene during the late 80s. His parents died while he was young, so he was brought up by his grandparents in Wickford, Essex. Like many performers on the folk circuit, Turner came up through playing a wide range of material from folk through country and rock and, eventually, folk again. His style of writing and performance has benefited from this eclecticism. In 1988 he wrote the rock ‘n’ roll musical, Billy Buckett, which ran for two years at the New Hereford Theatre. Turner always possessed a strong stage presence, and following the release of Movements In Architecture he was chosen as the support act for the 1991 Winter Tour by Fairport Convention. This further widened his audience, and with this higher profile he played a number of major folk festivals throughout the UK, and a great many of the clubs on the circuit. Turner appeared in Texas, USA, during the spring of 1993, followed by the festival circuit back in England during the summer. He has supported innumerable other artists including Jimmie-Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock, Maddy Prior and Rick Kemp, and Flaco Jiménez.
