Biography
A VERSATILE musician is looking for new venues and to attract new audiences to his work.I Have changed my stage name recently to Jay Gibson from james powlett, I believe its a better name for my music career hence the recent change.I am presently going under both names so you can find me online with either name.
Over a period of 25 years, James Powlett, from Kent, has developed his own unique style and performs a wide variety of genres of music that varies from soul, funk and blues, to jazz and country.
Well known in his patch for singing and playing electric and acoustic guitar, recently he has added keyboards more regularly into his repertoire.
He is already well established in the South East of England and has also established a following in Suffolk and is hoping to expand his musical empire to other parts of the country and beyond.
Most of the venues James performs at are pubs and clubs but he will also do corporate functions; weddings and private parties
James covers a number of well-known song-writing artists in his set lists.They include Stereophonics; Eric Clapton; The Jam; The Style Council; TheBeatles; The Rolling Stones; Paul Weller and many other familiar names.
From a guitarist’s perspective, James says he has been heavily influenced by the likes of Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac, the late Gary Moore and Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour.
James said: “Much of my original material derives from the influence of these artists too and has helped develop my song writing skills. I really like writing guitar-based pop rock songs.
“I am willing to work abroad and meet up with new people as I’ve had interest in my original material from the United States, Europe and Asia.”
Mr Nurse, landlord of The Dun and Cow, Great Bardwell, Suffolk says James’s live performances are very much appreciated by the pub regulars as well as attracting visitors too.

GLOBAL INTEREST: James Powlett, who has two albums on Myspace called Into the Fire and Electric Roulette saw his Twitter account increase ten fold in 24 hours on the 5th August 2013 from all parts of the world following the release of Magic Trip which features on his second album.Recently he has signed to Spinnup and is having his songs redistributed throughout the world through stores such as Amazon, itunes,Spotify,Google play, etc. As these are official releases James has reorganised ALBUM , SINGLE AND EP releases. His two albums on here have been made into one with the title of the album being Into the Fire as on here but with tracks featured from electric roulette album featured on it also.Also through Spinnup the song Infatuated is now an official single release from the 28th Dec 2013.As well as an EP of 6 songs under the name Road to Mandalay due for official release on the 11th January 2014, through Spinnup the album Into the Fires official release date is the 29th Dec 2013.
A SINGER/GUITARIST/SONGWRITER in the South of England
James has been professional for the past four and a half years and has added many more notches to his bed post, as well as being prolific in the amount of material is producing.
On Sunday 4 August, James decided to post his track and accompanying video, Magic Trip, and within 24 hours his Twitter account had gone viral jumping from 150 to 1,150 on Monday 5 August.
Many of those following his music video posts are from the United States, Japan, China, other parts of south-east Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
In January, James previously said to this blog: “I am willing to work abroad and meet up with new people as I’ve had interest in my original material from the United States, Europe and Asia.”
Currently he is regularly playing venues in Kent and Sussex and is hoping this jolt from the blue will gain him wider recognition.
Already known for his work in singing and playing acoustic and electric guitars, he has incorporated keyboard pieces and bass playing to his list of skills.
His guitar playing is heavily influenced by the likes of the late Gary Moore; Eric Clapton, Santana, Robert Kray; Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd and Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac. His singing influences include John Lennon, Paul Rogers from Free and Neil young etc.
James said: “I love playing covers at gigs as well as playing my own songs. I have a small home studio which is well, good enough, for this task.
“I will continue to produce and write my own material'' . Also James has signed up recently to a music company called Spinnup where he will be distributing his songs via itunes and Amazon Spotify etc.Through Spinnup he has relased a single called Infatuated and an Album called Into the Fire which is a compilation of his two Albums on Myspace.Also through Spinnup he will release an EP of 6 songs due for official release on the 11th Jan 2014. Presently James is working on new material for next year 2015.
