Upon the release of their self-titled, self-released debut single that came out in 1987, the quintet of Jalla Jalla -- meaning "faster, faster" in Finnish -- brought on their pop-punk influence of the Ramones to their Arctic native of Rovaniemi, Finland.
Accompanied by their own hybrid of ska, country, and vocal harmonies, the lineup of Jouko Hiltunen (guitar), Jukka Tarkiainen (guitar), Harri Pöyhtäri (vocals), Pekka Kärhä (bass), and Pertti Tuononen (drums) eventually released their first self-titled full-length through Hiljaiset Levyt Records in 1989. By the time their Crumelur came out in 1992, Jalla Jalla had two European tours under their belt as well as some experimentation with the genre of American ragtime. Their third full-length Snowmans Land eventually followed in 1994. ~ Mike DaRonco
