Jairzinho Oliveira, son of Jair Rodrigues, along with Wilson Simoninha, Pedro Camargo Mariano, Max de Castro, and Daniel Carlomagno (with whom he shares common aesthetic options -- a funky approach to samba), is the proponent of a new lineage of MPB influenced by soul music.
Still a child, Jairzinho became a successful TV host in the early '80s with the show Turma do Balão Mágico. Several albums were released by the gang which led the group to selling over ten million albums. His first solo album, La Casa dei Giocattollo (1995), was released in Italy but didn't become a hit. After a period in the U.S., where he studied musical production at the Berklee College of Music, he returned to Brazil. In 2000, he had his Disritmia CD released with success, a year in which he also performed in London, England, with good reception. ~ Alvaro Neder
