A hit-making songwriter, solo artist and member of four bands, Swedish singer/songwriter Jade Ell developed her musical style as she moved from country to country collecting memories that inspired her songs.
She grew up in Värmland, Sweden, playing piano and singing in jazz clubs and her church choir as a teenager. She then began her world travels at one point herding sheep in Israel, and at another working in the Swedish Consulate in San Diego. During her stay in U.S, Ell reunited with relatives from Chicago, who encouraged her to pursue her dream of becoming a professional musician. It was at this time she met musician/producer Richard Péay - who invited her to take part of the yearly Grammy Awards in 1996. Interested in her music, Péay began working with Ell, helping her develop a distinctive sound. Ready to record her debut, she returned to Sweden , where she worked with songwriter Jörgen Elofsson to create ”Promises and Prayers”, which was released in 1999. The album featured the singles ”Got To Let You Go”, which received significant airplay on Swedish and Danish radio (and was also namned a ”Record Of The Week” by the UK music industry publication The Tip Sheet) and ” Rivers, Colors & Miles”.
After the 2002 single ”Shallow World” - which was a reaction on the many reality shows that were broadcasted at the time - Ell returned with her second album, the Mats Hedström-produced ”Methods (of a Hostage Negotiator), three years later. During this time, she also worked on translating Douglas Pashley’s Spin: The Musical. She continued to collaborate with Hedström as a songwriter, scoring a hit with ”Felix Cumpleaños”, which appeared on RBD’s Lating Grammy nominated, chart-topping 2006 album Nuestro Amor. The duo aslo wrote for siongs for other Mexican, Danish, Japanese and Australian artists. In 2009, Ell’s art rock project Xanima - which drew comparisons to Enigma, Evanescence and Kate Bush—debuted with the album ”Inside Warrior”. The group also released the 2014 album ”Prototype: Homo Sapiens” - which is aslo based on a science fiction story/musical.
In 2010, she released the self-produced solo album ”Mourning This Morning” , a set of songs inspired by her biological ancestors, under the name ” Ellen” (which was also her grandmother’s name). Another project Band Of Jade, features Ell on piano and vocals. She and Hedström also formed the folky pop duo Tiny Tornado, and their debut album Echoes and Rhymes appeared in 2013. Despite her busy schedule, she also finds time to give individual lessons and songwriting workshops at European music schools - by Heather Phares.
Jade has also been awarded by STIM, The Swedish Performing Right’s Society, as well as by SKAP (The Swedish Society of Songwriters, Composers and Authors) and her songs have been recorded by various international artists, such as RBD (Rebeldes), #1 at Billboard Top Latin Album Charts (Mexico). Jade Ell released a 6 song EP in August 2015 “The Battle Is An Art” and it shows Jade’s own personal approach to Life - the way she has always used music as her first expression. This is also a production of her own, where Jade is exploring her visions and sounds. Winterlude has down the final mixes of this dreamy soundtrack. Jade’s own personal version of “Black Diamond” was released in November 2015 , as part of the KISS & Make-Up album, where female artists worldwide made their own interpretation of KISS songs. All song were selected by the KISS members.
Above all Jade Ell is a true live artist, having played at many venues in Sweden, Germany, Holland, Denmark, as well as New York City’s The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, Pianos and The Living Room to name a few. Having played both large and small stages, Jade is easily able to show off her great singing and songwriting talents and a quality she possesses is the ability to keep a great presence of mind on stage. As a performer and writer she has been compared and called “a female version of Peter Gabriel”. Other live acts include ”Jaden Joy” and ”Ellwa”.
Jade is also writing for many new exciting uprising artists, such as Dotter and Clara Mae - to name a few.
New upcoming single: MONSTER - March 8, 2016
Sometimes there’s only one appropriate word to use - and sometimes I just have to react to the cruelty that’s occupying our world right now… Humans are supposed to be human - but has shown to be ”monsters” more than anything. The many random shootings of innocent people, the never ending war in Syria - and all the many reasons for people having to leave their home countries. At the moment there are around 60 million refugees worldwide… ”Monster”, is my reaction - a song I had to write and that is now released as a single out of pure necessity…. Otherwise I don’t use ”monster” that much in lyrics… (No autotune or melodyne - nor animals were used in this recording).
