History and Philosophy of Ho Oo Ryu....
Ho Oo Ryu was created to bridge the generational and cultural gaps in Asian martial arts, and to shine a light on the mystical qualities of this ancient and wonderfully creative art form. ...In attempting this, students and others can gain a deeper understanding of martial arts "beyond just the physical" elements.....

Hopefully this can be achieved by exploring the numerous customs, traditions and philosophies that are found in the distinct and unique Asian countries that have provided different foundations and concepts that draw together within Ho Oo Ryu. This augments the old-fashioned ways of Asian martial arts with newer 21st-century technologies and understandings of biomechanics. Thus it is a fusion of East and West, past, present and future, where the old world meets the new one.....

In the ever-changing world where we find ourselves, Ho Oo Ryu will keep one foot firmly planted in the proven older principles and customs of traditional Asian martial arts, while placing the other foot within 21st-century self-protection techniques and tactics--"21st CSPTT" for short. ....

The Ho Oo Ryu martial arts program, however, was not developed just to produce a stronger and more "street savvy" person, but also to give its students a better understanding of self-defense itself by expanding it to and exploring the many cultures that have given us this art form. Our program will encompass tactical role-playing scenarios, Kata with their application, Kumite (controlled and free style), and Tameshiwari, the CSPTT program and physical fitness along with the cultural aspects of these systems. The result promises to be a well-trained, self-confident person who understands martial arts BEYOND JUST THE PHYSICAL.....

The genesis of Ho Oo Ryu martial arts is in traditional Okinawan martial arts. The linage of 那覇手(Naha Te) such as Uechi Ryu(上地流), Pangainoon and Okinawa Kobudo(古武道)will be the base of our training program for all students. The Japanese style of Kyokushin(極真会館空手) and its derivative, Sabaki and 護身術(Goshinjutsu)will round out the Japanese segment of Ho Oo Ryu.

Elements of the Korean empty-hand martial arts systems are also part of Ho Oo Ryu. The Korean and Japanese/Okinawan martial arts have strong similarities, but the Korean martial arts have their own unique flavor. Combined with the Japanese/Okinawan system this makes Ho Oo Ryu an even more effective system. The names of these Korean martial arts systems are Tang Soo Do and the close-quarters hand-to-hand system of Hapkido will round out the Korean section of Ho Oo Ryu..

While living in Japan, this writer/instructor was fortunate to have trained with Thais who were teaching Mauy Thai boxing in Japan. The Mauy Thai kicks are unique and very powerful. Their system has strong and fast fist and elbow combinations, and long with powerful kicks. So Mauy Thai Boxing is included as a part of Ho Oo Ryu. ....
