Like the gritty Japanese horror film bearing the same name, there are dark undertones to the cold, punky music of Hausu.
The group formed in Portland, Oregon in 2010, while the members were attending college. Vocalist/guitarist Ben Friars-Funkhouser, bassist Carl Hedman, second guitarist Alex Maguire, and drummer Sanit Leyba wrote the bulk of the album between 2011 and 2013, and then headed to YU Contemporary Art Center to record a batch of songs that were ultimately molded into Total, their 2013 debut album for Hardly Art. ~ Jason Lymangrover
