Brazilian born guitarist Guilherme Monteiro has made an impact in the NY scene since leaving the Monk Institute in 2000.
Crossing over many different genres he recorded and toured with Ron Carter, Luciana Souza, Lila Downs, Eliane Elias, Jesse Harris and Kurt Elling, among others. With his band, Forro In The Dark he has been helping re-define Brazilian music for this century, having people like David Byrne contribute to their unique blend of Country/Downtown NY sound. Recently he wrote the original score for the Vice Magazine produced movie “Toxic Amazon” and can be heard on numerous recordings aside from his own album entitled “Air”, which came out in 2009. Besides leading his own group Guilherme holds a guitar chair in both Anat Cohen's Anzic Orchestra, Duduka da Fonseca's Quintet and recently started to go back and forth between Rio and NY to work with brazilian singer Vanessa da Mata on a Jobim project which was produced by Kassin and arranged by Eumir Deodato.
