Latin pop/rock band Grito was formed in New Jersey by the end of 1993 by two brothers who were previously playing in different projects in Florida and New York.
Known by their nicknames of Felix and Gio, these two young musicians decided to start up a new band to be part of the growing rock en español local scene. Soon after, Cuban-American Russ was invited and Ecuadorian David Pérez came as the best player in the auditioning process. The lineup was completed when Latin percussionist Celcio joined in. Grito started as an opening act for bands such as heavy metal Héroes del Silencio, Argentinean Miguel Mateos, and Chilean los Tres. In 1996, Grito participated at a Latin rock festival called Wateke, playing along with la Ley, la Castañeda, and Shakira. That same year, the band issued Paraíso del Eden, followed by Grito in 1999. ~ Drago Bonacich
