Though Welsh avant-garde composer/painter Graham Bowers spent many years writing scores for dance, mime, and experimental theater performances, his debut album, Of Mary's Blood, didn't come out until 1995.
The first in a multimedia triptych (surrealist artwork accompanied the record), Of Mary's Blood's combined classical, prog, and experimental music into one long continuous track. It was followed in 1997 by Transgression, and the set finished up a year later with Eternal Ghosts. After an illness delayed him from writing music, Bowers finally returned with another album of "sound theater" with 2005's Pilgrim. ~ Marisa Brown
