Artist Bio
Nyinomugisha was born in Uganda at a time when the country was feeling the impact of being ruled by a dictator "Idi Amin" Over the years her family kept fleeing back and forth into exile and the only strong hold for the family was Church and music. As a child she absorbed musical traditions of her parents, was also introduced to all sorts of music, from Jim Reeves to Franco and she learned to embrace different cultures.
In 1989 finally returning to Uganda, Nyinomugisha joined "Aumaling Heartbeat" as a traditional dancer and went on tour, before joining Namasagali College, until she moved to Germany in 1994. For many years she was involved in different projects in Germany to promote the african culture, while performing and not only was she in the studio working on her projects, but also worked as a backup vocalist for other artists."Labongo Lewich" was her first album which is a crossover of Northern Uganda traditinal Luo music and Western jazzypopmusic 6/8 rythmes played into 4/4 time signature, was recorded in Germany shortly before she relocated to Massachussetts for some time.
Being an independent artist and a mother of two she receded from the live circuit and relocated to London end of 2011 and was more involved in bulding and promoting cultural awareness in and around her community. Nyinomugisha's love for the arts has always inspired her to reach out and do whatever she can to see it continue to our next and with this love 2014 saw her co-start up an artist company that showcases young musicians in the UK from all backgrounds.
2015 sees Nyinomugisha back in the studio in Germany recording a new album and also collaborating with different artists from her home town in Gulu, Uganda. One can hear in her music that she is truely keeping to her roots because there are a lot of traditional instruments running in the background as basics. She keeps her vocals quite traditional and with the language she loves most-Luo,~ Anna Brown
