Gamaiun is the prophetic bird from the Russian folklore. He is the messenger of Gods, singing the heavenly songs and foretelling the future to people that are open-minded and living close to Nature. When coming from the East he brings the deadly storm with him. He is depicted as a bird with woman's face and breasts. Together with two other female-like birds Sirin and Alkonost he rules the human fate.

The band Gamaiun has been born in 2007 as a one-man project to spread the Slavic pagan beliefs through misanthropic doom black metal. The man behind the project is Vostok also known as Zerivan.
