Growing up as a kid i would always see my dad playing his acoustic guitar, singing Beatles and Beach Boys songs.
He would perform in parties singing songs he'd arrange into medleys and people just loved it. He taught me 3 chords on the guitar when i was 12 and thats when I wanted to learn more. My dad, GV Paredes Misa is my guitar hero. He could make up his own chords. Whenever i tried to learn a song and couldn't figure a chord out, I would turn to him. He's also a great singer. He's a soloist in the Ateneo Glee Club. I come from a family of musicians, composers and arrangers. Jim Paredes of APO Hiking Society is my uncle. Joey Quirino, one of the best piano players in the Philippines is my cousin. I was 15 when I formed my first band with my sophomore high school classmates. We were called 'Trial and Error', derived from an Algebra technique and also because we didn't know if people would like us. We played new wave tunes from The Cult, Modern English, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.
My first electric guitar was a Philippine-made Gibson SG which sounded like crap. In Junior high school, I upgraded my guitar to a 70s Ibanez Les Paul and started playing glam rock songs from Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi, Poison, etc. In college,
I joined different bands and was the start of my gigging days. I was in a band called Spinning Jenny and we would perform in clubs playing music from Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc. I also became the guitarist for Violent Playground. The band Rivermaya would get me as a session guitarist whenever their guitar player got sick. In 1994 I joined Shanghaied, an alternative band which recorded and revived the song 'Batugan'. This was the first time i heard myself on the radio. This was also the time when I was actively writing songs. In 1997, a good friend and classmate of mine, Paco Arespacochaga asked me to join his band Mystery. At that time Mystery was recording a new album and needed more songs. I let them hear my compositions and 6 of them made it in. In 2000, I left the band to pursue a different career in software engineering. In 2007, I moved to Los Angeles for an engineering job and happened to meet with old friend and bandmate Paco Arespacochaga who had reunited with Introvoys, which was now based in Los Angeles. They asked me to join the band and I happily accepted. I continue to actively write songs for the band which fit Introvoys' style and genre.
