The individual members of the London-based Freetown have an extensive history in ska and reggae music.
Drummer Jah Bunny played on a number of recordings for the Kingston, Jamaica-based Studio One -- this roster includes Matambi, Franki Paul, Sugar Minott, Lynton Kwesi Johnson, Rico Rodriguez, and eventually Paul McCartney on his Reggaebility record. Guitarist and vocalist Steve Harris worked with Laurel Aitken while multi-instrumentalist Tony Gethin performed in a number of reggae bands in England. Forming Freetown in the late '90s as a backing band for Laurel Aitken, Beatville Records eventually debuted the bands first album, Painless, in 1999. ~ Mike DaRonco
