A quartet of Jim West (vocals), Eric Turner (guitar), Charlie Souza (bass) and Donny Vosburgh (drums), US hard rock band Fortress formed at the end of the 70s and played sophisticated melodic metal.
An encouraging response to their early demo tapes eventually resulted in a major label contract with Atlantic Records in 1981. The group’s debut album, Hands In The Till, won a fair critical response, but the sales reaction was less favourable. Fortress were dropped by Atlantic shortly after its release and broke up almost immediately thereafter.
