Featuring Russian-born producer Alexei Jendayi and Jamaican-born MC Kowboy Kom, the alternative rap duo Fly Gypsy combine the big -beat sound of acts like the Chemical Brothers with more urban-based genres like hip-hop, R&B, and reggae.
The duo met in Washington D.C. where Jendayi was playing guitar at the Bar Nun nightclub's weekly open mic night. When Kom stopped by with some rhymes, the two struck up a friendship, but they didn't start working together until two years later when, in late 2008, Jendayi added Kom's vocals to his single "The Ruler." Both parties decided this one-off collaboration must become a group, and soon work would begin on Fly Gypsy's debut full-length, The Vodka & Rum Mixtape. In July of 2009 they released the laid-back summer single "You." ~ David Jeffries
