Fluid was born Kevin Jared Allison on March 3, 1976 in Oakland, CA.
From the moment he came home from the hospital he was introduced to the wonderful world of music. Whether it was the nursery rhymes and children’s songs his mother and aunts would sing to him, gospel hymns heard in church, or the top 40 jazz and R&B hits his father would listen to, music always played a part in Fluid’s daily life.

In the mid`80s while attending Golden Gate Academy (Oakland, CA), Fluid began taking piano and drumming lessons, and soon became a member of a performance band started by his music teacher. It was also during this time that he first became exposed to Run DMC, LL Cool J, Boogie Down Productions, Eric B. & Rakim, Too Short and many other rap pioneers and innovators. However, it wasn’t until 1990, during an eighth grade English class that he would realize his own ability to perform and write music. He was asked to do a poetry assignment and decided to turn his poem into a rap and perform it in front of the class for fun. The entire class including the teacher gave him rave reviews and soon Fluid began writing other raps to perform at school for his friends.

In the fall of 1990 Fluid entered high school and began participating in talent shows and free style contests. That same year he won KMEL’s Battle Of The Rappers three nights in a row under the name K-Love. As more and more people began to take notice of Fluid’s talent he constantly found himself being asked to perform at open mic events and parties. During his senior year he was asked to write a rap commemorating the senior class and performed it as part of a skit put on by the class. Over 2,000students witnessed the performance.

In 1995 Fluid began taking his love for music and performance to the stage. He’s performed at such venues as Dorsey’s Locker(Oakland, CA), the Malonga Casquelourd Center For The Arts(Oakland, CA), La Pena Cultural Center (Berkeley, CA), the Black Repertory Theatre (Berkeley,CA), the CoCo Club (S.F., CA), Toon’s Nightclub (San Jose, CA), The Mezzanine(S.F., CA),Carribean City (Oakland, CA), and The New Parish (Oakland, CA).Fluid has opened for many artists including Suga Free, DJ Quik, and Xzibit and has also contributed songs to several compilation albums produced by and featuring local Bay Area artists.
