An unusual UK indie band, Fiel Garvie was formed when Adam Green (guitar, programming) and Anne Reekie (vocals) left their previous Norwich, East Anglia, England group, Passing Clouds.
They were joined in Fiel Garvie by Greg McDermott and Jude Bugden. The debut single for their own Foundling label, 1996’s ‘Glass Faced Warrior’, brought rave reviews, as did the follow-ups ‘For What I Love’ (1997) and ‘Colour You’ (1998). Fusing influences as diverse as Kurt Weill, Eric Satie, Philip Glass, Tricky and the Tindersticks, Reekie’s distinctive voice and studied intellectualism lent the band an edge wholly out of keeping with the retro-themed indie music of the mid- to- late 90s. Their debut ¡Vuka Vuka!, recorded at an all-valve studio in Norfolk, was finally released on the Noisebox label in early 2001. Despite good reviews the album was not widely heard and the band vanished for a couple of years. They returned at the end of 2003 with a new member Emma Corlett and a new single, ‘I Didn’t Say’. Their second album Leave Me Out Of This was released the following summer.
