Australian rock band Feverdream took their inspirations -- from '90s bands such as Swervedriver and Radiohead to older post-punk acts like Killing Joke and the Cocteau Twins -- to form their sound, a combination of pop instincts with a healthy love of noise and thick atmospherics.
They officially formed in 1990, with bassist/vocalist Ewan McArthur, drummer Richard D'Arcy, guitarist/keyboardist Tim James, and guitarists Ben Keenan and David Wroe eventually filling out the lineup. McArthur and James had been involved with music together since the late '80s, covering Cure songs with synthesizers and drum machines. In 1997, U.S. indie label released You Don't Know Us, but We Know Who You Are, a compilation that selected the best material from a trio of records that didn't receive distribution outside of their country (Initial EP, Somewhere Elsewhere, and Moniker). Songs By Strung Out Singles followed in 1998, released by the same label. ~ Andy Kellman
