Angel "Exodus" Bolques
Influenced by people such as Marcus Garvey, Bob Marley, Haile Selassie, Peter Tosh, Jacob Miller, and Tupac Shakur, Exodus brings a voice that convincingly conveys past and present tribulations, contemporary triumphs, and future aspirations. Exodus’ music consists of smooth, conscious vibes and deep-raspy, cool toned vocals which give him a distinct identity amid other reggae artists from the Virgin Islands. Focused on positive thinking, positive living, and love, his rootical chanting style is based on the foundations, beliefs, morals and values of the Rastafarian culture. The music he brings forth is meant to provide upliftment to his listeners, and encourage them to stay positive and stand strong against the negative obstacles found in our societies. It is Cultural, Spiritual, Political, and Soulful music!
Exodus (born Angel Luis Bolques Jr.) is a conscious, roots, reggae, dancehall musician from the Virgin Islands. Exodus has also recorded calypso and reggaeton songs, showcasing his musical versatility and diverse background. Born in St. Croix, raised in St. John, and having spent years living on St. Thomas, Exodus represents all of the US Virgin Islands in both his culture and his music.
In 2005, Exodus began his musical career, garnering a great deal of local attention with the release of a street anthem entitled “Street Raized” and “Rise” through OTM Studios. After having honed his skills as a reggae artist, Exodus collaborated with De Apostle, Brock, Fyah Bun, and Najocki on his first official album entitled So it Begins, released in 2008 by Souljahz of Jah Ent. (the album is also distributed worldwide via iTunes, Amazon, and CD Universe).
With hit songs such as “Hailing Jah,” “Crying & Mourning,” and “The Message,” - Exodus’ first album gave him public recognition and praise, leading to his performances at concerts such as Beach Fyah 5 in St. Croix (2009), Beach Fyah 6 in St. Thomas (2010), HYPE’s Rhyme Against Crime Show (2010), opening for the world renown Third World band for Love City Live in St. John in 2011, and most recently, Love City Come Together I & II in 2012 and 2013.
These shows gave him the exposure he needed to become a rising star in the Virgin Islands and abroad. In 2012 Exodus released the mix-tape Only Time Will Tell which gave him more popularity on the airwaves and within the VI community. Most popular songs were “I Love Life,” “State of the Territory,” “Until the Day,” and “Chant Ah Psalm”.
To date, Exodus has released material in the Virgin Islands, Atlanta, and the Netherlands with OTM Studios, Rude Lyfe Entertainment, IMS Music Group, Riddim City Sounds, Zion Hill Music, and RedGold Greene Project.
This year, after the release of the Live Right compilation mix-tape with the mega-hit “Live Right” and the critically acclaimed “Babylon Bruk Down Meh Door,” Exodus’ musical career skyrocketed, landing him #1 on the Reverbnation Reggae Chart for the Virgin Islands.
Currently, Exodus is working with director/photographer E. Franklin Tulloch on the Under St. John Project, a six-part documentary about the oceanography of the Virgin Islands which has gained much attention from environmentalists and associations such as DPNR, CZM, Fish and Wild Life, NOAA, and other community-based initiatives. Look out for Exodus’ theme song “Rhythm of Life” on the Under St. John Documentary currently in production 2013©.
Exodus is rapidly becoming one of the Virgin Islands newest and brightest conscious reggae artists. His music has resonated with fans regardless of racial, cultural or socio-economic backgrounds, showing the musical diversity and talent of this up and coming artist. All audiences will certainly enjoy the positive, thought-provoking, and inspirational music of Exodus “The Movement.”
Exodus:
"My musical efforts are not to gain, but to share and go through the boundaries and borders of separation and to be heard by all people. The title, So it Begins relates to me as a musician and to my fans as listeners. Only Time Will Tell reflects the struggle of accomplishing such a mission. My intentions are to make quality music to satisfy musical and spiritual hunger of everyone that relates to it. My goal is to bring us closer today than yesterday, to live as one.
Give Thanks for all your support! Much Love and Respect! One Love, One Aim, One Destiny!”
