Though a product of the fertile Olympia, Washington indie rock community, Engine 54 instead drew their influence from classic ska, honing an energetic old-school sound which found considerable favor among fans of the genre.
Consisting of vocalist Dylan Smith, guitarists Scott Freeman and Perry Salzhauer, keyboardist Lance Asher, drummer Kelly VanCamp, bassist Colin Davis, trombonist Emelie Peine, trumpeter Huck Wilken, saxophonist Tom Mazzuca, and percussionist Jason Brown, the group debuted in 1996 with a self-titled LP, returning two years later with "Run for the Money."
