Born August 7, 1983 in Staten Island, New York, Emme is the youngest of five and knows hard work and dedication.
She was raised by her parents Amina and Yusuf immigrated to the United States in their early twenties from Accra Ghana. Yusuf came in 1961 and Amina 1964 to live the dream. Having five children two who have Sickle Cell Anemia and Emme finding out in her later years that she has SLE (Lupus) it has not been an easy road.
Emme has been singing from before she could walk. Any chance she was given to sing or write a song she would take. Emme spent countless days in the house writing her own music or learning a new song while her friends were outside playing. When Emme would go outside she loved performing for her friends and family, sometimes making them be her backup. She just loved to perform.
It was never an easy road for Emme and she had her mind set at an early age that she would be a lawyer, a psychologist or a singer and the whole world would know her name. While in Intermediate school (I.S.61) Emme loved to play instruments and played the clarinet. Emme then attended Curtis H.S. and Emme has performed in several talent shows in High School with friends and was also a member of the Step Team. Emme has always had a love for the stage and loved an audience. Emme began to start her professional journey by taking vocal lessons with Pleasant Russell who was a drummer for the Force MDs which is an American R&B vocal group, that was formed in 1981 in Staten Island, New York. In 2007 Emme began her professional recording project and performed in the Rush Arts Gallery in Brooklyn and other local Venus until her life took a major turn.
Emme began to have various health issues in 2007 from severe asthma, fibroids which were removed in 2009 and to finding out that she suffered from SLE. In August of 2010 Emme went to St Vincent's Medical Center for what she thought was an asthma attack to find out that there was fluid surrounding her heart caused by the Lupus. She was immediately brought to the intensive care unit and given emergency heart surgery. She was released from the hospital and only two weeks later the fluid came back and the procedure had to be repeated. The doctors all said that Emme was touched by an angel because if one more cc of fluid would have dropped that would have been the end. Emme was released from the hospital and began her road to recovery. Doctors all told Emme that they did not know if she would be able to sing again due to the extremity of what her body has endured. She would have to slowly build herself back up but it was not safe. Emme is a strong willed dedicated person whom had her mind set that she would overcome this lupus battle.
While Emme was recovering from her two major heart surgeries and battling SLE in 2010 Emme enrolled herself back into the College of Staten Island to complete her Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Emme also began her vocal trainings with Pleasant Russell in October of 2011 and in May of 2012 Emme graduated the College of Staten Island all while recovering. Emme has faithfully done her vocal exercises daily never missing not one day during her recovery process and had to build her voice back up. It definitely was not an easy road. Anyone who personally knows Emme can tell you how strong of a woman she is.
2013 has been the best turning point for Emme finally having her Lupus under control and now beginning her new project she is Blessed and grateful to be able to share her journey with the world and is excited for the world to hear her voice that she was told would be no more!
