A talented vibraphonist who utilizes four mallets at once (a la Gary Burton) but has often leaned towards swing standards, Ed Saindon has spent much of his career as an educator.
He graduated from high school in 1972, studied drums at Berklee under Alan Dawson and in his sophomore year switched his focus to the vibraphone; Burton was one of his most important teachers. After he graduated in 1976, Saindon joined the teaching staff of Berklee where he has been ever since. In addition to his work as a teacher and a clinician, Saidon has played locally in the Boston area for many years including gigging with Adam Makowicz, Warren Vache and Dave McKenna among others. His recording debut as a leader found him leading a quintet called Spectrum on Different Strokes for the tiny World Mallet label and in 1995 Ed Saindon recorded a set of vintage swing standards (Swing On The Sunnyside) for A Records. ~ Scott Yanow
