Doppler[dop-ler]noun:
A Kiwiband about to shake up the rock music scene with powerful melodies, slick guitars and a ground-stomping rhythm section.
Sincebursting onto the stage, albeit a small town one, in 2005, Aucklandfour-piece Doppler have been turning heads.
Formed in Methven, population 1300 in the heart of the Canterbury Plains,Doppler have come a long way. After years of gigging up and down thecountry and several changes to the line-up, the boys are now ready tounleash their latest musical masterpiece Against the Real – a fourtrack EP set for release in May with a nationwide tour to follow.
Recorded at Studio 203 with acclaimed sound engineer and producer AndrewBuckton (Crowded House, Dave Dobbyn, Bic Runga, Supergroove), Againstthe Real is Doppler’s best work yet.
Doppler’sdebut single Oblivion, recorded at Auckland’s York Street Studios, dropped in October 2010 and propelled them onto the Kiwi rocklandscape. The lads then relocated to the big smoke and embarked on a14-gig self-funded nationwide tour, impressing audiences with their energetic live set and killer sound.
Their edgy alternative rock sound, described by the band as “a blast oftrue rock & roll – loud guitars, big drums and the rawest vocals New Zealand has ever seen” has also paved the way fo rDoppler to take the stage as an opening act for some of our most well-known bands including Opshop, Atlas, Elemeno P, Autozamm,Goodnight Nurse and I am Giant.
Lyrically,Doppler are not shy about creating a heart wrenchingly dramatic andemotionally unbridled aural landscape. The anthemic melodies offrontman Adam Wilson sear across the band’s unique sound, driven bythunderous drum and bass lines and a scorching lead guitar. It’smusic you won’t be able to resist – or forget.
“People like our sound, they can relate to it, it’s a new Kiwi sound andit’s not too alternative or grungy. We’re all about rocking outtogether, producing polished music and kick-ass live gigs and havingsome fun,” enigmatic frontman Wilson told www.Music.net.nz.
2013 isalready gearing up to be a big one for Doppler. With the EP polishedto perfection and a tour in the planning, the band are ready to rock…
